The Doctor presented here is 'ol Scarf Boy himself, Tom Baker.  At the risk of sounding clichéd, the impact of Baker's tenure, seven years, cannot be underestimated.  For many, many fans, certainly in the U.S., this was our first Doctor.  His first three years, teamed with Elizabeth Sladen and under the Hinchcliffe/Holmes production team, was the golden age of the series.  Season 18 wasn't too shabby either.
